Gabriella Di XX Miglia
What's the purpose or goal of your work?
I am an artist. I can just pop out of bed everyday in a good mood, ready to go to my studio, ready to tackle the universe. My purpose is in my DNA. My artistic goal is to keep the integrity of my work intact recording my impressions of society, culture and environment for the good of humanity.
Which art trends inspire your current work?
Trends and novelty for me are passing fads, instead I try to go out from my comfort zone ,I challenge myself and my work improves.
How has your style changed over time?
I always go a little further into the water that I feel I am capable of being in. I go a bit out of depth and when I feel that I am almost touching the bottom, I am just about in the place of improvement and something changes.
Is there a specific environment or material that's integral to your work?
Sometimes I like to revisit some old paintings creating new paintings on top and so I preserve the past living the present. I also reuse tools they were made for different purpose, such cooking or house tools.
What factors influence the price of your work?
Time, size, materials, my struggle.
What is the best advice you have received in your career?
Allow creativity stimulate ideas in the quiet time in stillness, the ideas rarely come when you are just waiting for them. They intrude themselves into the idle moments of relaxation. Without the boredom/relaxation/time wasted, creativity cannot exist.
How do you manage a work-life balance as an artist?
All life is important; plants, nature, all my surrounding. For this reason while I treasure my time painting in my studio, I take time off to listen to the sound of nature while I nurture my garden, I walk on the beach and I admire a sunset, practicing yoga and meditation, but also while I do everyday shores. When I go back to my studio I connect all together in my work.
How has your education helped you in your career?
My art education gave me the rules, technique and understanding of art history and I believe an artist should learn the rules like a pro, so he can break them like an artist. In my case my art education gave me also the tools to become a specialist in the field of art conservation.
