Hayam Elsayed
Hayam Elsayed has been passionate about fine art from a young age. She finds great joy in creating her paintings, often drawing inspiration from life and nature. While she appreciates various art styles, realism remains her favorite. As a realism artist, her approach to subject matter is to depict it as it truly appears in life. However, she also admires other styles, such as impressionism and abstract art. For instance, Vincent Van Gogh is among her favorite artists whose work reflects these styles. Hayam also draws inspiration from American artists like Georgia O’Keeffe, known for her iconic flower paintings, and Thomas Kinkade, celebrated for his realism. Additionally, she has developed a fascination with the realism of Renaissance portraits by masters such as Leonardo da Vinci and Sandro Botticelli. Michelangelo, in particular, inspires her with his skillful use of light to dramatically emphasize specific points in his compositions.
Q&A
What is your artist statement?
I am a portrait artist based in London. I love to paint the ordinary, analysing simple subjects that will encourage the viewer to look more closely at the many wonderful and beautiful things surrounding us daily.”
How has social media changed your art practice?
Social media has profoundly transformed my art practice, both in terms of creation and interaction. It has allowed me to engage with a global community in ways that were once unimaginable, providing a platform for instant feedback, exposure, and inspiration.
What is the impetus of your creativity?
Art has always been a way for humans to connect with one another, and I create because I want to forge that connection-whether it's with the people who view my work or with the greater human condition. This connection doesn't always need to be direct or explicit; it can be a shared experience, an emotional resonance, or even an intellectual challenge. The idea that art can spark empathy, insight, or dialogue is incredibly motivating to me.
Who or what influenced your art style?
My art style has been influenced by a range of historical, contemporary, and personal factors, blending classical foundations with modern technology and conceptual themes. like Renaissance Masters ,The works of artists like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Caravaggio have had a profound impact on my approach, particularly in terms of the use of chiaroscuro (the contrast of light and dark), human anatomy, and the emotional depth conveyed through figures. These artists' ability to capture both the physical and psychological dimensions of the human experience-along with their mastery of technique-has been a constant source of inspiration in my pursuit of blending technical precision with emotional resonance.
What is your preferred medium?
Oil paint is the medium I use to create my art on canvas. Painting in oils is a traditional form of art that many of the Old Masters used when they created their masterpieces. I love the work of the Old Masters and someday I hope to be as much of an accomplished artist as they were.
