Sharon Sayegh is a contemporary artist who lives and works in East Brunswick, New Jersey. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from University of Pennsylvania where she studied under Neil Welliver and graduated Cum Laude. She continued her art studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She exhibited in the Human Rights Exhibition at South Texas College, as well as the Holocaust Museum Houston.

Her work is in the permanent collection of South Texas College, McAllen, Texas and private collections internationally. She is a member of IGOR (International Guild of Realism) and is a Signature Member of Artists for Conservation. She is a member of the National Association of Women Artists. Sayegh was an invited Curator/Juror at Alliance of Monmouth County, Red Bank NJ.

Q&A

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Inspiration for my narratives come from various sources such as family photos, current events, literature. Nothing is off limits if I am inspired by it. It is often something I find to be a deeper truth that I feel needs to be expressed to fill a void in the collective unconscious. However, I do not like to be obvious if it comes to politics and the inspiration is shrouded in metaphor and symbolism.

DO YOU EVER VENTURE OUT OF YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS TO TRY OUT NEW THINGS?

I work in Raku and ceramics as a break from painting. Recently I am learning Egg Tempera and am venturing into Mosaics. I also have ideas for making tapestries.

WHAT IS YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL FOR YOUR ARTWORK?

My goal ultimately with my artwork is to grow it to be the best it can be and go wherever it may take me.

WHAT ARTWORK IN HISTORY HAS INSPIRED YOU THE MOST?

I am fascinated with the Middle Ages. I love Giotto and all religious Icon paintings for their spirituality and gem like qualities. Jan Van Eych is a favorite. I am inspired by Mexican muralist artists for their compositions and complexity of scenes. The American art scene is also an interest of mine such as Thomas Hart Benton and the WPA artists.

WHAT DO YOU DREAM?

I dream of painting epic size paintings of exquisite beauty and composition with deep meaning that offers something for everyone who lay eyes upon it!
