Q&A
How has social media come into play with your artwork?
As an artist who has always worked outside of the usual art channels, I have had to find other ways of getting my work out there. The advent of the internet and social media has greatly expanded my reach and made me aware of opportunities that I would have never known existed.
Who is your art crush?
Conor Walton. I am obsessed with his paintings, I like his use of traditional techniques with contemporary subject matter, especially in his still life paintings.
What inspires you?
Everyday life. I will see something, read something, or hear something that will trigger an idea to pop into my head. My grandchildren have inspired me by once again allowing me to see the world through the eyes of a child.
How have you developed your career?
In life there are tortoises and hares. I have slowly and methodically built up a body of work, a recognizable brand, and an expansive exhibition record. I also have had my share of luck.
What current trends are you following and why?
I am watching the nature of the gallery model way of doing art business as it rapidly changes. I personally love going into galleries to view art, but the same system has been in place for a very long time and the internet seems to be widening the playing field.
